The European Securities and Markets Authority. ESMA replaced the Committee of European Securities Regulators (CESR) on January 1, 2011, with the continued aim of increasing transparency and integrity within the securities markets and Ratings Agencies, improving cooperation among securities regulators, and implementing community legislation in individual EU Member States.
