Financial Covenant

Definition:

Another name for a Maintenance Covenant or a debt Covenant contained in Credit Agreements or Indentures. An agreement between a borrowing company/ issuer and its creditors/bondholders dictating the company’s operating limits. Such Covenants are always a condition of borrowing/issuing bonds, and can be amended if the debt is restructured (usually as a result of a breach of Covenant).
