Flipping

Definition:

The practice of purchasing shares in an offering at the offering price and then reselling those same shares very quickly after the start of public trading to realize an immediate profit. Although some Flipping is desirable to ensure Liquidity after an offering, excessive Flipping may negatively affect the Secondary Market. Accordingly, underwriters may impose a penalty on brokers to discourage this practice.
