Interest Rate Swap

Definition:

A method by which two counterparties agree to exchange one stream of future interest payments for another. Interest Rate Swaps often convert Floating Rate Debt Instruments into Fixed Rate Debt Instruments, and vice versa. Used to limit or manage exposure to Interest Rate fluctuations or to obtain a lower Interest Rate.
