Definition:
Generally, the person responsible for organizing and promoting investment opportunities, as well as raising capital. Typically, a major equity-holder in a private equity company.
In the United Kingdom, a Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) approved adviser who is registered on the FCA’s list of sponsors. In certain circumstances a Sponsor must be appointed by issuers in the listing categories for commercial companies, closed-end investment funds and shell companies. Once appointed, the Sponsor has obligations to both the company and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
