Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA)

Definition:

Created in July 2007 by the merger of the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (NASD) and the member regulation, enforcement, and arbitration functions of the NYSE. FINRA is responsible for regulating business between brokers, dealers, and the investing public.

FINRA was formerly known as the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (NASD).
