Main Market (United Kingdom)
Definition:
The London Stock Exchange’s primary market for larger, more established companies. The Main Market comprises those securities admitted to the Official List.
The Main Market consists of a single listing category for equity shares in commercial companies and other listing categories, such as those for shell companies and foreign-listed companies seeking an international secondary listing. Global Depositary Receipts (GDRs), options and warrants can also procure a listing. The requirements for commercial companies focus on proportionate disclosure and corporate governance standards. These include requirements to appoint a Sponsor in certain circumstances, such as during an IPO and where the company is engaging in a further issue of securities requiring a prospectus to be issued.
