Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX)

Definition:

The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, which sets corporate governance standards and reporting obligations for all Public Company Board of Directors (BoD), management, and public accounting firms. See, for example, Section 404, which requires Reporting Companies to maintain certain Internal Controls and procedures over financial accounting systems. SOX does not apply to privately held companies.
